First lady commissions ultra-modern Adeboruwa Market Ikorodu






The Lagos state first lady, Dr Ibioke Sanwo-Olu has commissioned the ultra-modern Adeboruwa Market in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, comprising of 200 Shops and 160 K-Clamp Shops, in Igbogbo area of Ikorodu.



Ibioke urged the market women and men to guide and protect the market jealously, noting that between May 2019 - March 2021 Lagos state has averted about one thousand eight hundred nine, fire incidents. 



"We should try at the close of business each day to ensure all electrical appliances are switched off.



"We should guide the market, a lot of fund was spent in making this market an ultra modern one since 1973, which is a huge success.



"I will urge residents especially market men and women to be more security conscious and promptly report any suspicious movement around them to relevant security agencies.



" Previously in Yoruba land, training a child is a collective effort, let us abide in that culture of being our neighbours keepers, it won't cause us any harm, she said.



She also appealed for understanding and cooperation of the people on the decision of the state government to restrict operation of commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada in certain areas.



"It is important for the provision of relevant laws to be enforced to sanitize the environment.



In his speech, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Builder Sesan Daini said it was a very huge achievement for Igbogbo/Baiyeku to witness the Ultra modern market commissioned.



"I appreciate my staff, stakeholders and contractors for their hard work, patience and dedication towards ensuring the completion of the market.

" When we came into office on July 25, 2017, we met beautiful foundation and we are prudent enough to evaluate, analyze, modernize and improve them for realization of our campaign promises of development of our communities.



"Our people believed in us and gave us unparalleled support, thus in the space of four years, we made progress as a people, we broke records and set new one's, we moved forward because the people reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over under development.



" The spirit has lifted our LCDA from the depths of despair to great height of hope," he said.



He noted that one of the beautiful foundation they met when they came into office was Kaniyi owode market.



"The process of the market started in 1975 but was established in 1978 during the reign of HRM Oba molaja ogunlewe.



" The growth and expansion of the market inspired the creation of Adeboruwa market in the process of time.



"The market was an old style of market with old structure but we do know that if we must develop our commerce, we must provide facilities that meet up with dictate of this generation enterprise.



" Our motivation is our desire for the world class and commitment to the THEMES agenda of the Lagos state Government.



He said that in a bid to achieve the modern  market standard structure, they went into PPP arrangement with marlex investment Ltd.



"We built this market in parity with the few ultra modern market in Lagos state.



"The market which is sub-sectioned to meet the global standard where each section will be departmentalized according to the commodities that will be sold in them actually comprises zoo shops, 160k-clamps, public toilet, standard car park, space for fire station and other state-of-the-art facilities.



"The market is one of the 414 registered markets in Lagos state and we are committed to making all our markets of this standard across the council.



" We have started the process of reconstruction at elepe and ibeghe markets  because our people deserve the best and we are answering by giving them the very best.



"We will use this project to appreciate some of our heroes that played significant roles in laying the foundation of the first market at inception.



" The blocks in the market will be named after them as follows:

I)HRM Oba Festus molaja ogunlewe 



II)chief Emmanuel omotayo Dankuwo(Community Development Committee chairman ,when market was established 



III)Asiwaju olorunfunmi Basorun (community Development secretary,1973 secretary igbogbo market men and women Association 1978" funding years" -1996.



IV) Late chief Joseph ogunyemi (First Babaloja)



V)Late chief(Mrs) sikirat obayomi.(First iyaloja)



"My people, our tomorrow is beautiful, I believe we can seize the future together because we are not divided as politics may dictate and we are also not cynical.



" We are greater than the sum of some individual ambitions and we will forever be the people of IBLCDA .



He noted that they have assured Mr governor that they will continue to intensify their efforts towards the realization of the administration's cardinal goal anchored on infrastructure development, improved health care system, youth/women empowerment and human capacity development.



"Our profound gratitude goes to Adeboruwa of igbogbo kindom, Oba semuideen orimadegun kasali and the entire traditional institution for giving us every support required to make this project a reality.
