NIGERIA'S FIRST ULTRA MODERN POLICE STATION : A RETROSPECTIVE VIEW OF ADRON HOME'S RECORD SETTING ACHIEVEMENT IN AFRICA

By Comrade Kunle Sodipo MNIMN,mnim

Director Public Relations, PCRC Southwest Geopolitical Zone, Nigeria.

As the most populous black nation on earth with various ethnic groups and cultures, Nigeria is no doubt number one in the world when it comes to cultural diversity. It is therefore meaningful to say that such uncommon possession which has turned out to be our strength as a nation can not exist without challenges; and one out of such challenges bothers on security of lives and properties of the people, not withstanding the ethic group they belong, their religious beliefs, social status or political affiliations.

From independence in the year 1960 and since the return of democracy in 1999, various governments in Nigeria has made efforts to equip the Nigeria Police with meaningful infrastructures for effective policing. Such visible infrastructures includes but not limited to; Police stations, Police barracks, patrol vehicles and communication gadgets. Unfortunately, continuous surge in population, advancement in technology and failures by respective governments to continually provide or upgrade these policing infrastructures has led to various inadequacies leaving one of the oldest and most important security agency in Nigeria in dare need of both corporate and individual supports from the community.

It is on this note that the then Inspector General of Police, *Late Etim Inyang Rtd.,* established the *Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC)* in the year 1984 with the sole aim of positively using the committee to bridge the wild gap created between the Police and the community owing to the negative effect of many years of military rule which unavoidably affected the good image of the Nigeria Police Force. The establishment of the PCRC has since proved potent and highly meaningful due to the committee's ability to mobilize community members including corporate and private entities both home and abroad in support of the Police in terms of physical and non physical needs.

Interestingly, one of Nigeria's property company and by far the number 1 in Africa; *Adron Homes and Properties* has brought on board, a whole new approach and dynamics to community security support, both to the Police and to the community at large via the instrumentalities of the company's corporate social responsibility and through the PCRC. As often mentioned *"a golden fish has no hidden place"* and *that "birds of same feathers flocks together"* is a perfect description of the diamond partnership between Adron Homes and Properties and the PCRC since the appointment of the GMD *Aare Oba Adetola Emmanuel King* and his lovely wife, *Yeye Aderonke Emmanuel King* as Grand Patron of the Police Community Relations Committee, Southwest Geopolitical Zone first, by the National Vice Chairman, *Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan* and subsequently as National Patron by the National Chairman, *Ambassador Farouk Maiyama (Yariman Jega) PhD.*

Going by their antecedents, *Aare Oba Adetola Emmanuel King* and his beautiful wife, *Yeye Aderonke Emmanuel King* are proven supporters of anything that benefits the community at large and their exploits in this regard is second to none both within their immediate environments and beyond. Their unique culture of giving back to the community that made them has deservedly earned them numerous awards and honours from *government, traditional institutions, community associations, professional groups, religious bodies and diverse ethnic groups.* From purchase of patrol vehicles and motorcycles for the Police, to construction of community halls, Police stations, Police barracks, financial aids to Police personnel and community members in times of dire needs e.g during covid -19 and EndSars protest, sponsorship of community based security seminars,  workshops and sporting activities and *other philanthropic masterclass;* it is undeniable that *Adron Homes and Properties has meticulously evolved as trail blazers amongst contemporaries in Nigeria and by far within Africa's real estate circle,* not just by business operations but via numerous record breaking corporate social responsibility and philanthropic gestures.

As at date, the new Simawa Ogun State Ultra Modern Police Station and Barracks built by Adron Homes and Properties Ltd and commissioned by Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, *IGP Usman Alkali Baba* on Tuesday 8th November, 2022 ranks as the best in Nigeria and *one of the best in Africa built by a private corporate individual and handed over to the Police with Patrol vehicles and motorcycles.* Ably represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Lagos and Ogun States, *AIG Adeyinka Adeleke Bode,* the IGP expressed an in depth appreciation from the Nigeria Police Force to the entire management and staffs of Adron Homes and Properties. The number one Police officer in Nigeria also used the medium to call on good spirited Nigerians home and abroad to emulate the good gestures of Adron Homes and Properties towards the Police and the entire community at large. He specifically admonished the community to ensure that the modern and enviable Police station is not damaged by unscrupulous elements no matter what, *that community leaders should instead find various means of discussing and settling any contentious issue (s) using various conflict resolution mechanism available to them when the need arises.*

The National Chairman of the PCRC, *Ambassador Farouk Abdullai Maiyama (Yariman Jega) PhD* who led other National Officials to the Grand Commissioning of the Ultra Modern Police Station, including the National Deputy Chairman South, *Chief Mrs Adesola Adebutu,* the National Vice Chairman Southwest, *Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan,* Southwest Deputy Chairman, *Prince Sunny Yemi Adenowo JP,* Zone 2 Chairman, *Alhaji Bashir Balogun,* FCT Chairman, *Otunba Bolaji Adigun,* Ogun State Chairman, *High Chief Ven Dr Samson Kunle Popoola JP,* Lagos State Chairman, *Apostle Kehinde Sowemimo* (ably represented), Other Southwest States Chairmen of *Ekiti, Oyo, Osun, Ondo,* Zonal Chairmen of Zone *11 and 17,* Area Command, Division and Units Chairmen too numerous to mention; *called on all Nigerians to emulate the outstanding gestures of Adron Homes to the Police and the Community both in cash and in kind,* using their good and respective little, medium or big resources and legitimate means for the overall good of all.

Representing the Governor of Ogun State, *Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR,* the Executive Secretary, Ogun State Security Trust Fund, *Engr. Adeola Sosanwo* described Adron Homes and Properties as *one out of many corporate entities in the Gateway State with very laudable corporate social responsibility records.* He assured the people of Simawa that the Government under the leadership of *Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR* will address other needs of the community such as the road network and other necessary amenities currently lacking in the area. The occasion also had in attendance, *Paramount Rulers, High Chiefs and Community Leaders* from Simawa and other neighboring communities.

The Simawa PCRC was inaugurated same day with awards presentations to the Inspector General of Police, *IGP Usman Alkali Baba,* DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, PCRC National Chairman, *Ambassador Farouk Maiyama,* National Vice Chairman Southwest, *Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan* and GMD Adron Homes, *Aare Oba Adetola Emmanuel King.* Most applicable now as far as Adron Homes and Properties is concerned is the melodious "Catch me If you can" music of Nigeria's Hip hop music singer *Jaywon* when talking of *record breaking achievements in both business operations and highly sophisticated and meaningful corporate social responsibilities* in Nigeria, Africa and gradually to the World.
