EndSars: the unit should have been retained and the officers involved in that unit reformed - Itedo Baale

His royal highness, the first Baale of Itedo community, Chief Ogunyemi John says the decision by the Federal Government to ban the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) will restore temporary peace to the society.

Following the disbandment of FSARS by the Inspector General of Police IGP, Mohammed Adamu, there have been many reactions both negative and positive to that effect.

Ogunyemi pointed out that disbanding the unit is a smart move to nip on the bud chaos that would have erupted by the nationwide protest against FSARS.

"Although the disbandment will assuage the anger of protesters, however, the unit should have been retained and the officers involved in that unit reformed.

He said that the excesses of the reckless few of the officers should have been checked but not disbanded.

"I hope disbanding of SARS will create room for the establishment of another outfit and the new out will carry out the objectives of the federal government," he said.

According to him, we are aware that the unit and other tactical team in police force have performed credibly well.

"We are all living witnesses in my community about the activities of hoodlums committing all forms of crimes and we did not have peace.

"But now, my community is enjoying peace through the help of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the intervention of the security operatives, insecurity has become history in the community’’.

Chief Ogunyemi, while speaking on his achievements in the last two years said he was overwhelmed seeing the community sleeping with their two eyes closed.

"I created Community Development all around the community; we have well equipped public schools with good facilities from the state government and with modern market.

"Throughout the period of covid-19 pandemic, the community did not lack any food stuff through the assistance of Iyaoloja who made sure the market was equipped with enough food and the market people abided the rules of social distancing.
