The Honourable Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, has congratulated Senator Adeola Olamilekan Solomon, popularly known as YAYI, on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State.
Senator Adeola emerged victorious at the party’s governorship primary election held on Thursday, securing a sweeping victory that further cemented his status as the consensus choice of the ruling party in the state.
The governorship primary, which drew attention across political circles in Ogun State, ended with Adeola polling an overwhelming 304,055 votes, while his sole challenger, Mr. Abayomi Hunye, recorded no votes.
The outcome of the exercise reflected the broad support Senator Adeola enjoyed among party stakeholders and members prior to the primary election. Political observers had earlier predicted a comfortable victory for the senator following his endorsement by major APC leaders and aspirants across the state.
Before the primary election, Adeola had already emerged as the consensus candidate of the party after receiving widespread backing from the majority of governorship aspirants and influential leaders within the APC structure in Ogun State. Among those who publicly aligned with the consensus arrangement was Governor Dapo Abiodun, whose support was seen as significant in consolidating party unity ahead of the election.
Despite the overwhelming endorsement for Adeola, Mr. Abayomi Hunye had proceeded to purchase the APC nomination form and remained in the race, a move considered by some political analysts as an effort to test the democratic process within the party.
Reacting to the development, Engr. Oludotun described Senator Adeola’s emergence as a victory for party unity, experience and progressive leadership, expressing confidence in the senator’s capacity to sustain and advance the developmental agenda of Ogun State.
According to the Forestry Commissioner, the emergence of YAYI demonstrates the confidence party members have in his leadership credentials and his track record of public service.
Oludotun also urged APC members across the state to close ranks and work collectively toward ensuring electoral success for the party in the 2027 governorship election.
He noted that the primary election had once again shown the strength and internal cohesion of the APC in Ogun State, stressing that party members should now focus on mobilization and strategic engagement ahead of the main election.
Political watchers believe Senator Adeola’s decisive victory in the primary may significantly shape the political landscape in Ogun State as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 governorship contest.
With the APC standard-bearer now confirmed, attention is expected to shift to other political parties and potential challengers as the race for the Ogun State Government House gathers momentum.
